When & Where?
We meet from 6pm to 10pm every Thursday in the Basement Hall of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church on 907 East Main Street (parking and entrance are off Bilbro Avenue).
Is the space handicap accessible?
Yes, but please text ahead for assistance. There is a ramp to the ground floor, and an elevator to the basement Fellowship Hall where we convene, but the door will have to be unlocked. Just text to 615-427-1459 when you arrive.
What is the cost?
Our club is free to attend. If you wish to be a paid member, it is currently $10.00 a year. Aside from helping the club with expenses, members get $5.00 off of our classically-timed rated tournaments, and are eligible to play in our closed club championship.
What should I bring?
The easy answer is simply yourself and any other chess enthusiasts.

Are children welcome?
Kids are welcome and encouraged to attend as long as their guardian stays with them throughout the duration of their stay.
Over the Board (In-Person) Tournaments & Events?
The Murfreesboro Chess Club hosts a popular US Chess rated blitz tournament on the last Thursday of every month. It is optional, so casual chess can commence across the room simultaneously. We also commit to at least three major one-day Saturday tournaments throughout the year.
Please tell me about chess ratings.
Everyone is encouraged to join US Chess (a.k.a., United States Chess Federation) in order to play in rated events. Players start off with a provisional rating after their first tournament. The rating reflects playing strength as it compares to other rated players, and is based on performance against the rated players from each game played.
Did I read that the Murfreesboro Chess Club has a library?
Through generous donations, the MCC has a handsome library of chess books. Patrons are welcome to check out up to two books at a time, for up to 30 days each.
Are online competitions available?
We have a club team that plays against a group of other teams in a Monday Night Team Battle on Lichess, we have a Chess.com club space, and we also host a Classical Swiss Tournament on Lichess on the last Sunday of every month.
