USCF & MCC Blitz Rules (as posted on-site)
- Problem Resolutions: Pause the clock and quietly discuss the offense (illegal move, touch move, etc.). If agreed upon, make the board right, run out half of the offender’s regular time and resume. If players cannot agree, seek the TD for a verdict.
- Touch move applies (with intent, i.e., not accidentally brushing over one to get to another).
- Set clocks to silent mode.
- An illegal move stands if both players miss it.
- You maintain castling rights even if the pieces were set up improperly.
- All clocks will face the same direction as decided by the TD.
- Do not hover your hand over the clock, or otherwise prevent your opponent access to the clock.
- If the King is left in check after your opponent actuates the clock, you may take it for the win.
- An illegal move doesn't negate a player's right to claim a win on time, provided it is made before the opponent's illegal move claim.
- Fixing a displaced piece (and/or adjusting) should be called, and strictly be made on your time.
- Use the same hand to make your moves and hit the clock.
- Do not call any attention to, or discuss, an ongoing game; including the time remaining.
- The added-time feature negates claims of insufficient losing chances.
USCF & MCC Blitz Rules:
* USCF Blitz Rules Changes since the Rulebook's 6th Edition.
- The touch move rule applies.
- Clocks are set in advance to silent mode, it is the player's responsibility to claim a win or draw on time.
- It is a player's responsibility to point out an opponent's illegal move, or to claim any other infraction of the rules.
- Do not call attention to, or discuss any ongoing game, including the time remaining.
- Use the same hand to make your moves and hit the clock.
- All clocks will face the same direction as prescribed by the TD.
- Do not hover your hand over the clock, or otherwise prevent your opponent access to the clock.
- Fixing a displaced piece (or adjusting) should be made on your own time with a verbal indication before doing so.
- An illegal move stands if both players miss it, including an incorrect setup of the pieces.
- You maintain castling rights even if your King and Queen were set up improperly.
- If your opponent's King is left in check after he/she actuates the clock, you may take it for the win.
- An illegal move doesn't negate a player's right to claim a win on time, provided that the "time win" is made before the opponent's illegal move claim.
- Here is our penalty procedure for most rule infractions in the G/3; b2 time control: Pause the clock and quietly discuss the infraction. If agreed, run out half of the offending player's “main time”, and resume the game. Ex. Reduce by half for the touch move rule.
- With any unresolved issue, pause the clock and wait for the TD to finish his/her game for adjudication.
- It is essential that you score your result on the wall chart after every round indicating your: Win = 1, Loss = 0, Draw = .5, & Bye = B.
- Please see the important information below about our unique Individual Pairing Card System, Prize Fund Distribution, and special notes concerning digital clocks (what to avoid and what is preferred.)
* USCF Blitz Rules Changes since the Rulebook's 6th Edition.
Special Notes about Digital Game Clocks:
The MCC now has a limited number of Wholesale Chess Basic Digital Chess Timers, which we believe are virtually identical to the Leap PQ9907S, for use in the blitz tournaments.
We now prefer the bonus added time, but also consider the US delay format in our time controls. The following clocks do not have the US delay function and should be avoided for those occasions.
DGT 1001, DGT 1002, DGT Easy Game Timer, DGT XL, Some Leap models, and Saitek Game Clock II. Others have to be verified.
Here is a list of preferred clocks that do have the US delay function, and that we have owner manual documentation for:
* Players are solely responsible to know the operations of their clocks, and the pause feature of others.
** All of the information concerning clocks was graciously researched and compiled by Rich Larmi.
