With the goal of providing a competitive training ground for self improvement in chess, the MCC has created a flexible Club Ladder. Some benefits include: opportunities for post mortems, tournament prep, honing analysis/annotation skills, and team building.

Here are some time tested methods:
- Play stronger opponents.
- Play slower games with longer time controls (serious games).
- Write down your moves.
- Conduct post mortems and further analysis.
- Engage with puzzles.
- Read and practice Chess strategy and endgames.
- Review openings.
- Seek out Plus, Minus, Equals, i.e, work with a mentor, mentor someone else, and discuss ideas with peers.
